In an earlier posting, I shared the project in which students made healthy and unhealthy food options out of papier mache. To continue the project, we took a closer look at pop artist Roy Lichtenstein.

Students posed with their papier mache sculpture considering the composition of their next project. We printed the photos 8x10" and drew a 1" grid on top of them. They enlarged their drawings onto a 16x20" paper on which they drew a 2" grid lightly with their pencils.

Students studied Lichtenstein's style, primary colors, and Benday dots used in pulp printing that Lichtenstein often incorporated into his paintings. Students had to design a background and create a caption on their work.

Students added color using marker and colored pencil.

The results were a lot of fun!
