My amazing art teacher colleague in my high school teaching placement had a brilliant hack for managing individual student supplies - door hanging shoe storage.
Each student's workstation (in this case it was an individual drafting table) had an assigned number. This was great for storage, seating charts, clean up, and accountability.
The shoe rack has the student workstation number written on the outside of the pocket. Each student is responsible for returning their materials to the correct bin. With the clear pocket design, it's quick and easy to check at the end of class and could even be an assigned classroom job for an end of class routine.
The number system works well for artwork storage, checking that paint brushes and cups are properly washed, preventing erasers and sharpies from walking away (too much), seating charts, and much more.

Paint cup number system: tape on the counter had each student's workstation number. Paint cups had the same number written on. Each cup should have the same amount of brushes - these have a detail brush and larger soft brush.
